Alden Applegate Smith was born in Rome, New York.
He grew up in many different places due to his father’s jobs; he went to elementary school in New York State, then 7th grade in Cambodia at a correspondence school run by Monks and attended a French school in 8th grade. Ninth and 10th grade found him in the Philippines at a Christian school for Americans living in South East Asia. After his return to the US he spent his last 2 years of high school in Massachusetts. He graduated Harvard with a degree in English. Alden then decided to volunteer for VISTA, a government group that helped people in need. Alden is well traveled , reliable , experienced with all levels of our society. He has worked for himself for years as a carpenter and furniture maker. He's done cabinets, remodels, decks, play -scapes and finish carpentry. He also built several stairs down 100 feet high bluffs , to give access to the beach in Northern Michigan. Alden is a member of the International Wood Collectors Society . As a hobby he educated himself on exotic woods acquiring substantial knowledge of their properties and usage potential. His work is artistic , beautiful and of high quality. Alden has been married for 30 years and has two daughters. He currently lives in Seattle (Kenmore) and serves the North and East side. |
